The debut full length from Southern California black metal outfit Anshelm, Through the Burning Glass, uses tremolo guitars that establish triumphant melodies and dissonant chords, crushing blast beats, heavy break downs, and breathy, seething vocals that are the vehicle for guitarist and vocalist Pyralis’ dark storytelling. Broken up classic metal solos from lead guitarist Iblis and perfectly placed fills from drummer Xul, the album is reminiscent of old-school black metal bands Bathory and Darkthrone while having a deep appreciation for contemporaries of the genre. The album will be sure to please black metal fans both old and new.
